I did not really know anything about Lena Dunham before reading her book, Not This Kind Of Girl, and you don't need to know anything about her. Because this book is not about that, this book is about so many other things, that I don't even know where to start this post.
Lena Dunham, is an amazing writer. Even though I don't know anything about her, or this is the kind of book I would normally read, I could not stop reading. She tells us episode and memories about her childhood, teenage years, her time at college and at work, and she tells us in this way, that we can't really imagine these things have happened to her, because she describe it just too good for it to be a memory.
I love Dunham's way of writing. Throughout the whole book you have feel that she should not tell you this, this is too personal. But then again you are happy that one women is strong enough to talk about, even scream these thing out, that all women try to hide. She tells us all her fears, dreams, bad breakups, problems with eating, boys, sex, relationships, friendships. The list is endless, but I can promise you, that she talks about everything that goes on in you life as well.
When I read this book I fell uncomfortable about all the things she talked about, yet I had never been more comfortable. I must say that Dunham's stories have made me more calm about who I am and who I want to be, who I should be and what I should do. I should do whatever the fuck I want to. I should not be embarrassed of who I am and what I want to do with my life.
And I think Lena Dunham realized this too, and had to write all of her embarrassing stories down - because they made her who she is now, and she should not hide from it.
I see Lena Dunham as a strong woman with a powerful voice - and a powerful way of writing. I did not know Lena before this book, and I do know her better now, but I still don't know her. But I do have so much respect and good thought about her.
You should read the book, because I do believe everyone gets something out of it. Even if you're the person like me who get this out of it, or you are the kind of person who gets some good laughs at all the funny moments in this book. It is worth it. All my respect and admiration goes to Lena Dunham at the moment.
Let me hear your thoughts on her book, if you have read it or do know a little to Lena Dunham. I would love to hear other points of views.
